About the Blackbird Motif Countertop Canister
Terra cotta pottery has been a favorite in the kitchen for 10,000 years. Today, our potters still build timeless functional works from the durable clay with a contemporary style. Made in Oregon, the kitchen canister is shaped by hand on the potter's wheel, intricately painted by hand with multiple underglazes, provided with a durable lead-free clear glaze, and kiln-fired multiple times for a strong, permanent finish.
The Blackbird motif features rich black and white glazes hand-painted atop the natural red-russet color of the terra cotta clay. With its clean, glossy glaze the design combines contemporary styling with old world charm. Heavy and substantial, the countertop jar stands 8.5" and holds up to 4 and 1/2 cups (36 oz) - ideal for storing coffee, sugar, seeds, and more. The handsome canister includes a companion scooping spoon, also handmade in Oregon. Cast in solid pewter, the scoop has a 1 tablespoon volume. The canister made with lead-free glazes and safe for use in the dishwasher.
Note: Each canister is made one-at-a-time. Due to the completely handmade nature of this item, slight variations in the jar size and painted pattern may occur. - What is pewter and is it safe to use with food?
